The FNPS: Episode 126 - Mahsa, Reconciliation, & Coolio (10-07-2022)

I got knocked on my butt last week by a really bad migraine (presumably due to Hurricane Ian) so this week's show is actually the show I'd been planning to do last week. It's a first, in that it's three separate segments. The first one is on Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman whose tragic and preventable death on September 16th has spurred worldwide protest. The second segment honours Truth & Reconciliation Day (Orange Shirt Day), which was September 28th. The final segment is a brief look at some of Coolio's best stuff, to acknowledge his passing on September 26th.
 
NB: This episode touches on some difficult subjects, such as systemic abuse. Use your best judgement as to what you feel you can handle, and take care of yourself

The FNPS: Episode 119 - Shoegaze (07-29-2022)

On this week's show, we take a look at the roots and peak of shoegaze in the 80s and early 90s. The excellent box set I reference in the episode can be found on Cherry Red Records website, and there's a solid post on Reddit about the history of shoegaze. Pitchfork's top 50 shoegaze albums is also an excellent read (though the pagination chafes my butt - just use an infinite scroll!), and this New York Times article from 1991 provides a cool window into the attitudes of the time.
